Overview
Comenius University Faculty of Medicine offers high-quality education through its two main undergraduate programs: General Medicine and Dentistry. Both are 6-year, full-time doctoral programs available in Slovak and English. Graduates earn the degree MUDr. (Doctor of General Medicine) or MDDr. (Doctor of Dental Medicine). The curriculum follows the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and includes theoretical and pre-clinical studies in the first three years, with clinical training from the fourth year onward. Admission requires completed secondary education that qualifies the applicant for university studies.
Accreditation
Accredited under Slovak national higher education law; programmes must comply with accreditation standards set by the Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education.
In 2024, the university’s internal quality assurance system was assessed and found to conform to newly established internal system standards.
Study programmes are harmonised with Slovak legislation on accreditation; many programmes are internationally recognised, especially in medicine (EU standards) and other regulated professions.

Ranked ~ 739th globally in the CWUR, placing it among the top ~3.5% of universities in the world.
In QS World University Rankings 2025, it is between #661-670.
In Times Higher Education (THE) WUR 2025, it falls in the 1201-1500 band globally.
It is consistently the highest-ranked university in Slovakia across the major international rankings.
In the EduRank / Edurank system, it is ~#711 globally, and #1 in Slovakia, with many subject areas ranked in top 50-50% internationally.
Requirements
For General Medicine & Dentistry (English-taught, full-time, 6-year programmes): must have completed high school / secondary education; foreign secondary diplomas must be officially recognized (nostrification) as equivalent to Slovak school-leaving credentials.
Applicants must take an entrance examination in Biology and Chemistry.
Submit required documents: high school diploma / transcripts, proof of identity, possibly medical/vaccination certificate.
For international / non-Slovak citizens, proof of language proficiency in English if applying to English programmes; Slovak language requirement (often B2) for programmes taught in Slovak or when interacting with patients in clinical years.
Admission to Bachelor and Master programmes is competitive; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if there are more applicants than places.
