Overview

Founded in 1348, Charles University is the oldest university in Central Europe and one of the world’s most prestigious medical schools. The university offers a 6-year General Medicine program in English, leading to an internationally recognized M.D. degree.

Accreditation

  • Legally recognized and accredited by the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

  • Uses institutional accreditation as well as programme accreditation. The Accreditation Code of the university governs how programmes are accredited.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s programs: Secondary school-leaving certificate (or equivalent). If the qualification is from outside the Czech Republic, it often needs to be recognized (nostrified) by Czech authorities.

  • Entrance exams are required for many faculties; may be written, oral, or a combination. If the program is in English, the exam may be in English; if in Czech, in Czech.

  • For Master’s programs: a relevant Bachelor’s degree, transcripts, possibly entrance exams or interviews depending on faculty.

  • For PhD programs: a Master’s degree, plus any additional requirements set by the faculty (e.g. research proposal, publication record).

  • Proof of language proficiency (Czech or English) depending on program.

  • A wide range of fields including Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Education, Theology.

  • Medicine (6 years), Dentistry (5 years) (in Czech and English in certain faculties).
